Disgraced ex-comptroller Alan Hevesi to be released on parole

Imprisoned ex-New York Comptroller Alan Hevesi will be home for the holidays, as the disgraced official is set to be released on parole after serving 19 months behind bars, officials said Thursday.

Hevesi, 72, was sentenced to one to four years in prison after pleading guilty to felony corruption in 2010 for his role in a pay-to-play scam involving the state's $153 billion pension fund. He has been in prison since April 2011, and will be released Dec. 19.

Hevesi, a Queens Democrat, was comptroller from 2003 to 2006. He was ensnared in then-Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's investigation in to the state pension fund.

While on parole, Hevesi must abide by a curfew, seek permission to leave the state, and he is forbidden from communicating with his accomplices in the scandal.

Hevesi's attorney, Bradley Simon, said that his client "all along accepted responsibility for what occurred and he's anxious to get home and be with his family," according to The Wall Street Journal. "He served 19 months and did so without complaint." Simon didn't respond to a request for comment.
