Divers rescue 5 from car in Queens creek
Divers have rescued five people from a car that went into the water in Queens, a spokesman for the FDNY said Friday night, and four of the victims are in "grave" condition.
Fire officials received a call at 10:36 p.m. about a car in the water and responded to 19th Avenue and 37th Street, near Steinway Creek in Astoria. By 11:30 p.m., divers had pulled all five people from the car.
One of the people rescued was in nonlife-threatening condition, while some of the others were suffering from cardiac arrest, the FDNY said.
"It's serious," the department spokesman said.
The NYPD said the four patients in critical condition were taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center.
An investigation of the incident is ongoing, a police spokesman said.
