DOE founder George McDonald throws hat in ring for Mayor
Doe Fund founder George McDonald officially announced his bid for mayor on Thursday, according to reports.
McDonald, a Republican, started the New York nonprofit 25 years ago.
The race is already stacked with political veterans, including, former City Councilman Sal Albanese, City Comptroller John Liu, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, Council Speaker Christine Quinn and former Comptroller Bill Thompson on the Democratic ticket.
Republican Joseph Lhota resigned as MTA chairman to explore a bid for mayor. Newspaper publisher Tom Allon is also running as a Republican.
