Dominican Parade takes NYC this Sunday

This Sunday, Sixth Avenue will be flooded with revelers as the Dominican Day Parade marches for its 32nd year.

Starting at around 1 p.m., hundreds of thousands of Dominicans will line the streets to celebrate their heritage and culture as floats, musicians and more march up Sixth from 36th Street to 52nd Street. More than half a million people are expected to attend, with about 10,000 marching in the parade.

The full slate of honorees is set to be announced on Friday, but many of the mayoral candidates have already pledged to walk the route.

Also already signed up is Jose Pena’s Suazo’s La Band Gorda, which will come in from the Dominican Republic for the celebration, according to published reports.

Dominicans are the fastest-growing group in the city and the second largest Hispanic group in the New York area behind only Puerto Ricans.
