The Second Avenue Subway project has been “plagued” by technical problems that have made for some sluggish progress, MTA officials said Monday.

Since tunneling began on June 8, the drill has only gone about two blocks — from 92nd to 90th streets — said Michael Horodniceanu, president of MTA Capital Construction. Problems with a conveyor belt used to transport “muck” out of the site is mostly to blame for the delays, he said.

Still, the the MTA said the project is still on track to finish by the end of 2016.
