Former Mayor Ed Koch remains hospitalized with pneumonia but that hasn't slowed down his energy, according to a spokesman.

Koch will be treated at New York Presbyterian for the next few day, his friend and spokesman George Arzt said in a statement.

The former mayor and political pundit turns 88 next week and is slated to have a party with his former City Hall staff. Arzt said the former mayor plans to keep that engagement.

"We hope that he spends his birthday next Wednesday celebrating with the people who worked for him in his administration," he said a statement.

The spokesman and Koch were having lunch on Tuesday when Arzt noticed the former mayor looked ill and Koch called his doctor.

The doctor initially diagnosed him with a respiratory infection and had him hospitalized.
