New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg wants to name the Queensboro Bridge after former Mayor Ed Koch.
The bridge connects Manhattan to Queens and was completed in the early 1900s.
Bloomberg’s office said Wednesday it hopes to rename the bridge the “Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge,” and will privately raise the money for new signs. The renaming needs City Council approval.
Koch, who turns 86 this month, tweeted Wednesday that he never imagined such an honor.
He was the 105th mayor and served from 1978 through 1989.
