Elevator repairman charged in Christmas Day accident in B'klyn

A repairman accused of negligence on the job after a woman was maimed using a Brooklyn elevator in 2010 was indicted Thursday on assault and reckless endangerment, the Brooklyn district attorney's office said.
"Everyone's worst nightmare is to be trapped by a moving elevator, and due to [Jason Jordan's] depravity, this victim lived that nightmare on Christmas Day," said District Attorney Charles Hynes.
Jordan, 27, was called to repair a broken elevator at SUNY Downstate Medical Center on Dec. 25, when he allegedly disabled a safety switch that stops the lift from moving if the doors are open and failed to post signs it was out of order.
Deborah Jordan, no relation, entered the elevator and was seriously injured when it suddenly ascended seven floors, prosecutors said. Her body was trapped and her limbs were crushed between the car and the landing, according to the indictment. The 47-year-old still requires physical rehab, Hynes said.
Jordan faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
