Eli Manning restructures contract to help with Giants salary cap

In an effort to help the Super Bowl champions under next year's salary cap, Giants quarterback Eli Manning has agreed to restructure his contract.
Manning was owed a $10.75 million base salary for 2012, but he agreed to take $9 million of that up front, reducing the team's cap hit by nearly $7 million, the Daily News reported.
That will help ease some of the pressure on general manager Jerry Reese as Big Blue was reportedly $9 million over the cap last month, and have 20 unrestricted free agents still unsigned.
The Giants' brass may next turn to running back Brandon Jacobs to redo his deal to free up space. Jacobs is owed $4.4 million next season, but previously said he'd be willing to restructure to remain with the team.
