A Moscow-bound Boeing 767 with more than 200 people on board was forced to return to Kennedy Airport Sunday night after an engine failed. Nobody was injured.

Delta Flight 30 departed Kennedy at 4:39 p.m. with 193 passengers and 11 crew members, the airline said.

Shortly after takeoff, the plane's left engine shut down, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The plane, which has two engines, dumped fuel as it made its way back to the airport, officials said, landing at 5:49 p.m.

The aircraft taxied back to the ramp without incident, the FAA said.

Delta said passengers were put on another plane scheduled to depart for Moscow at about 8 p.m.

Early reports were that the plane was returning with its left wing on fire.

Firefighters and emergency crews responded and were present at the landing, but the reports of the wing being ablaze turned out to be false, the FAA said.

The agency is investigating what caused the engine failure.
