The 16-year-old son of Eric Garner was arrested Tuesday night in Manhattan after police spotted him riding an allegedly stolen bicycle on Eighth Avenue against traffic, officials said.

Emery Snipes was charged with one count of possession of stolen property and one of being in a city park after dark about 7 p.m., according to a police spokesman.

The spokesman wouldn't confirm that Snipes was the son of Garner, who died in July 2014 on Staten Island after police used an apparent chokehold to take him to the ground during an arrest. But a law enforcement official confirmed the relationship.

The stolen property charge is a misdemeanor, and the park offense is a violation of city rules.

According to an NYPD spokesman, Snipes was spotted by an officer riding a Citi Bike on Eighth Avenue and then going into the Corporal John A. Seravalli Playground at Hudson and Horatio streets in the West Village. The playground, which occupies just over one acre and is named after a serviceman who was killed in action during the Vietnam War in 1967, closes at dusk, the spokesman said.

Citi Bike officials said the bike was stolen, the spokesman said.

Snipes' mother, Esaw Garner, couldn't be reached for comment. According to news reports, she said Snipes didn't know the bike was stolen. She also said she was going to ground her son and take his cellphone away.
