An ex-NYPD officer pleaded not guilty yesterday in Bronx Superior Court and was held without bail in the strangling death of his wife.
Eddy Coello, 38, reportedly remained silent as he was arraigned on a second-degree murder charge after the body of his wife, Tina Adovasio, 40, was found last week on the side of a Westchester road. Officials said the moth-er of four was strangled and suffered blunt-force trauma to her head and chest.
“We have video surveillance, forensic evidence and statements from the defendant’s own mouth that the night of March 11 and morning of March 12, after strangling her, he carried her dead body, put it in his car and dumped her in Westchester County,” said Edward Palty, head of the homicide bureau for the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said that Coello “has made incriminating statements.”
Coello’s attorney, Renee Hill, didn’t return calls for comment yesterday.
Coello was slated to be transferred to Rikers and placed in protective custody, officials said.
