Ex Gov. Eliot Spitzer plans run for New York City Comptroller

Former Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who resigned in 2008 amid a prostitution scandal, is set to make a run for the city comptroller’s office, he told The New York Times.
“I’m hopeful there will be forgiveness, I am asking for it,” he told the Times last night.
To get on the September primary ballot for citywide office, all candidates must have at least 3,750 signatures by Thursday, though the Times suggests that Spitzer’s name recognition will make this a relatively easy task.
“I am going to be on the street corners,” Spitzer told the paper. “We will be out across the city.”
Spitzer, 54, was a thorn in the side of Wall Street as attorney general, and he went on to become governor in 2007.
But after a report that he had visited high-end prostitutes in an elite ring called the Emperors Club VIP, he resigned, later emerging as a commentator on cable TV.
The other comptroller candidates include Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer.
