Ex-Jet Hugh Douglas axed by ESPN

ESPN announced Tuesday that it has terminated its relationship with former Jets first-round pick Hugh Douglas, a panelist on ESPN2’s “Numbers Never Lie” show, according to SI.com.
Following the announcement, Douglas tweeted his displeasure with the decision.
“I am very disappointed to be leaving ESPN and will have more to say about this situation and my future at the appropriate time,” he said.
At last week’s National Association of Black Journalists Convention and Career Fair in Orlando, Fla., Douglas engaged in a heated debate with “Numbers Never Lie” host Michael Smith, according to Deadspin and The Big lead. Reports indicate Douglas, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, threatened physical violence against Smith on three separate occasions.
Douglas began his career with the Jets in 1995 and earned the NFL Rookie Defensive Player of the Year award. He went on to make three consecutive Pro Bowls with the Eagles from 2000-02.
