Former NYPD officer Rex Maralit was sentenced to 3 years in federal prison on Friday in Brooklyn federal court for his part in a scheme to smuggle assault and sniper rifles and other military-style weaponry to the Philippines for resale.

Maralit, 46, of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, and his brother Wilfredo, a former customs officer in California, were accused of using their official status to obtain and ship the weapons.

They pleaded guilty last year.

A third brother in the Philippines is still at large.
