Family of man busted in iPhone theft says cops have wrong guy

The family of a man who was busted by a high-tech app for allegedly stealing an iPhone says police have arrested the wrong man, according to published reports yesterday.

Cops arrested Brian Chattoo, 23, of Queens on Friday for robbing a woman of her iPhone after an app allowed it to covertly send a photo of the thief back to her. But Chattoo’s family says the photo doesn’t look like him and cops were wrong to arrest him, according to the New York Daily News.

“This is not my son,” Hema Chattoo, Brian’s mother, told the newspaper.

The owner of the iPhone, Erum Malik, told amNewYork that she hadn’t seen the photo, so she wasn’t sure whether police collared the correct person.

Chattoo has pleaded not guilty and is being held on a prior DUI bust.

The app, iGotYa, which sells for $6.69 on jailbroken iPhones, reportedly quadrupled sales after the story broke. The app takes a photo from the iPhone’s front-facing camera whenever an incorrect passcode is entered.
