Fashion Week: Alexandre Herchcovitch fall 2011 show report

Inspired by images of violent forces of nature, Alexandre Herchcovitche's fall/winter 2011 collection incorporated contrasting textures and shapes while sticking with a three-color palette: grayish blue, black and volcanic yellow.

Using a blend of cashmere, silk, lace, wool and chiffon, the collection should have been a visual treat; instead it had an almost experimental effect that didn't quite feel new or exciting.

The show kicked off with fitted looks, slinky jumpsuits and deconstructed pants paired with silky T-shirts, and gave way to a cavalcade of what we termed a “grieving widow" theme — shapeless wool dresses, hoods and strategically placed lace that surely would look less than chic on an average woman.

That's not to say that everything was a wash. We liked a semi-witchy, long wool dress with chartreuse lace sleeves and the use of skintight leather gloves stretching to the models shoulders.
