Fashion Week's new class

Fashion Week is almost here. And every season we love checking out the collections of designers showing for the first time under the Tents. Here's a guide to five hotly anticipated designers who will be at Lincoln Center for the first time this season.

Porter Grey
The designers: Sisters Kristen and Alexandra O’Neill, who are based in New York
Backstory: Since its inception in 2006, the contemporary sportswear line — which takes its name from the designers’ great-great-grandmother — has been spotted on celebs from Whitney Port to the “Gossip Girl” gals, and in magazines from Paper to Harper’s Bazaar.
In their words: “Think Ali MacGraw in ‘Love Story’ with a slightly Adirondack vibe.”

Son Jung Wan
The designer: Korean native Son Jung Wan
Backstory: Wan has grown her design house in the last 20 years from a small shop to one of the largest labels in Korea. She has shown at Seoul Fashion Week for years, but this is her first time in New York.
In her words: “I was inspired by the gorgeous, luxurious look of the ’70s, a la Bianca Jagger, Jerry Hall and the ‘Halstonettes.’”

Irina Shabayeva
The designer: New York-based Irina Shabayeva
Backstory: The Parsons graduate won Season 6 of “Project Runway” and has been working in New York City ever since. In addition
to selling her eponymous line, Shabayeva hawks an outerwear-based collection on
the Home Shopping Network and recently launched a capsule collection for Macy’s
International Concepts brand.
In her words: “Fire and Ice is about human emotions and extremes.”

Joy Cioci
The designer: New York-based Joy Cioci
Backstory: After graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology, she apprenticed at Gucci, Carolina Herrera and Nina Ricci before working at Chelsea Flower and then WiNK.
In her words: “The collection is inspired by romantic notions of how light can transcend colors and shapes.”

Maisonette 1977
The designer: Hong Kong native Jane Ibrahim
Backstory: Since moving to New York 10 years ago, the Parsons grad has worked for Michael Kors, Yigal Azrouel, Bill Blass and Theory, among other designers.
In her words: “The Fall/Winter 2011 collection is inspired by Christopher Nolan’s film ‘Inception.’ I wanted the collection to convey an overall feeling of impending danger. The story is set in a surreal metropolis that exists in between the real world and the place we create in our dreams and imagination. It is a glamorous place that can turn at any time.”
