A man was killed Sunday morning when he lost control of his 1991 Ducati motorcycle on the eastbound lanes of the Grand Central Parkway near the Jamaica Estates section of Queens, New York City police and fire officials said.

Antonio Ferruccio, 59, of 71st Street in Queens was traveling eastbound when he struck a guardrail in the center median near the 168th street exit.

Ferruccio was taken to Queens Hospital Center shortly before 10 a.m. with severe body trauma and in cardiac arrest, authorities said.

The accident had caused all eastbound lanes to be closed, slowing traffic to a crawl for miles as drivers were directed off the parkway. But all lanes were opened, fire officials said.

Police are investigating.
