An FDNY firefighter was critically injured while fighting a fire in a multifamily house on Lafayette Avenue in Brooklyn, Mayor Eric Adams and FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker said in a statement.
The firefighter was working Sunday at the second-alarm fire in the Bushwick neighborhood when he suffered a medical event, according to the statement. The firefighter then went into cardiac arrest.
The statement, released Sunday, said the firefighter was treated for critical injuries at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center and then transferred to Lenox Hill Hospital for further care.
The FDNY was withholding the firefighter’s name and company until it had notified the family, according to the statement.
An update on the firefighter's condition Monday was not immediately available.
