Federal agents and NYPD officers Tuesday arrested four people and seized more than 60 pounds of Mexican heroin destined for the Bronx in a raid on a motel in New Jersey, officials said.

Members of the New York Joint Drug Enforcement Task Force, a unit composed of federal and local law enforcement officials, conducted the raid in a joint effort with authorities in New Jersey.

The heroin, packed in knapsacks and totaling 31 kilograms, was found in a motel in Secaucus, New Jersey, and is believed to have come from California after originating in Mexico, a law enforcement official said.

Those arrested included a 71-year-old man from Las Vegas who was picked up in the motel raid, according to investigators. The other suspects are residents of Colorado, California and the Bronx, an NYPD spokesman said.

Charges were pending late Tuesday. The suspects are expected to be prosecuted by state officials in New Jersey.
