Feds: Shots fired at car near NYC McDonalds
Federal agents opened fire Friday night on a vehicle driven by a suspect after they tried to apprehend him outside a McDonald's in Manhattan, authorities said. There were no injuries.
Three gunshots were fired outside the eatery and witnesses said agents from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement burst out of a red van to arrest two suspects.
Inside, patrons and employees ducked and looked outside, and a car sped off along 10th Avenue as agents in bulletproof vests walked around the parking lot. One carried a suitcase that a witness said was part of the arrest attempt.
New York Special Agent-in-Charge James T. Hayes Jr. said agents opened fire when a suspect drove in the direction of another agent who was on foot.
Alec Parsons, 40, of Westchester, said he had finished a sales meeting and was reviewing materials in his car in the parking lot when he heard agents shouting as they came out of a nearby van.
Parsons said he saw one man apprehended, and another take off with agents in pursuit.
One suspect was in custody Friday, but authorities would not say whether it was the driver. Authorities wouldn't say why they were seeking the suspects.
About three dozen people were inside the McDonald's when gunshots rang out shortly after 7:30 p.m.
