Forest Hills man killed in D.C. storm
Authorities say thunderstorms that swept through the Washington region have led to a Queens' man’s death and left thousands without power.
National Park Service spokesman Bill Line says the man was bicycling on the C&O Canal towpath in Montgomery County, Md., when he was struck and killed by a falling tree Sunday night. The man was identified as 56-year-old Neil Reich, 56, of Forest Hills.
Line says the Queens man had been on a two-day bike trip with a companion from Harpers Ferry, W.Va., to Washington.
High winds also brought down power lines, knocking out power to thousands of customers.
At 12:30 p.m. Monday, Dominion Virginia Power was reporting about 6,060 customers without power in northern Virginia. Pepco was reporting about 300 customers without power in Washington and Montgomery and Prince George’s counties.
