The playing field for next year's mayoral race may be getting bigger and more politically diverse.

Former Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion is eyeing a run to succeed Mayor Michael Bloomberg, according to published reports.

Carrion, who was a Democrat but is now a registered independent, may be taking a page out of Bloomberg's original election strategy and running as a Republican, but the candidate woudn't confirm the speculation, his adviser said.

Manhattan Media Publisher Tom Allon is the only mayoral candidate thus far running as a Republican.

Potential candidates include City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, former City Comptroller Bill Thompson and Public Advocate Bill de Blasio.
