Former NYC Mayor Ed Koch back in hospital again for fluid issues

Days after being released from the hospital, former Mayor Ed Koch was readmitted again Monday for fluid in his lungs, his spokesman said.
Koch's lead physician, cardiologist Dr. Joseph Tenenbaum, "decided he should go back into the hospital for treatment" said Koch's spokesman, George Arzt.
Koch, 88, did not go to his office Monday and was "struggling to talk" in a phone conversation because "the fluid had made him so short of breath," said Arzt.
The former mayor's driver took him to New York-Presbyterian, where he also treated last week. He had been released on Saturday.
Koch, who served in the House of Representatives from 1969 to 1977 and as mayor of New York from 1978 to 1989, was looking forward to attending the premiere of the Neil Barsky documentary about him ("Koch"), at the Museum of Modern Art Tuesday night. The film opens in theaters Friday.
It looked unlikely, however, that he would be able to attend now, Arzt said.
Koch has been hospitalized four times in five months.
After his last treatment for fluid retention, he emerged more than 15 pounds lighter and was told by physicians to limit his salt intake.
