It seems “American Idol” execs aren’t all that “Obsessed” with Mariah Carey.

Sources told TMZ.com that Fox executives have approached Jennifer Lopez about returning to the show and replacing Carey as judge.

Lopez was a judge on the program for two seasons, but quit last July amid contract negotiations. Carey filled her spot.

This season has been disappointing for the show. In March, ratings were at an all-time low for adults 18 to 49, the key demographic.

“Idol” has also trailed behind its main competitor, NBC’s “The Voice,” in recent weeks.

TMZ reports Fox is “scrambling” amid the ratings drop, but the network denied the rumors in a statement.

“This is just another ridiculous ‘Idol’ judge rumor, likely started by talks of Jennifer performing on the finale,” said a Fox representative Wednesday.

By press time, representatives for Lopez and Carey did not respond to requests for comment.
