Where’s a condom when you need one?
No need to ponder that any more. The city Health Department yesterday launched a free smartphone app, “The NYC Condom Finder,” which guides users to the 1,000 prophylactic distribution locations within the five boroughs.
Using GPS or a manually entered address, the app steers you to the five nearest venues that distribute the NYC-branded contraceptive. Walking, driving and public transportation directions are also provided, as are hours of operation.
“We want New York City to be the safest city in the world to have sex," said Dr. Monica Sweeney, the city’s assistant health commissioner.
For the past five years, the city has been giving out free condoms at an average of 3 million a month
.
Now, if only the Health Department could invent an app to find a partner.
