Hundreds of people have paid tribute to a 6-year-old Manhattan girl who died after battling a rare form of leukemia and fulfilling her wish to meet President Barack Obama.
Mourners attending Jasmina Anema's funeral in West Village on Sunday recalled her fight against the aggressive form of leukemia that prompted thousands of people to donate their bone marrow.
Her battle also drew the support of celebrities, including singer Rihanna.
Jasmina was diagnosed with leukemia in January 2009.
She underwent a transplant in June, but her body rejected the bone marrow.
After her death on Jan. 27, Obama said in a statement that Jasmina "showed tremendous bravery" and was "an inspiration." He had met with her in December.
