Giant David Diehl charged for DWI

Giants lineman David Diehl, who was arrested on Sunday night after he smashed his BMW into several parked cars in Queens, was charged Monday morning with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol. Diehl is scheduled to return to court on July 26, the same day the Giants report to training camp.

According to the criminal complaint, Diehl had a blood alcohol level of .182, more than twice the legal limit. If convicted, he could face up to a year in jail or a fine of $1,000. A Queens judge released Diehl, 31, who entered no plea to the two charges of impaired driving, and adjourned the case, but suspended his driving license.

Diehl was cuffed after sideswiping some parked cars in Astoria, where he had been celebrating Croatia's victory over Ireland in the first game of the European 2012 Soccer Championships. Dielh's mother is Croatian.

This is the first run-in with the law for Diehl, who was honored June 8 at the White House for winning the Super Bowl along with his Big Blue teammates. His agent, Pete Schaffer, did not respond directly to the charges, but described his client as "one of, if not the classiest, most humble New York Giants ever," to a reporter for the Newark Star Ledger.
