She’s up for election Nov. 2, but everyone’s buzzing more about Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s newly acquired polish than her politics.

Since being appointed to Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat in January 2009, Gillibrand has morphed from frumpy upstate mom to D.C. glamazon. The 43-year-old mother of two sons reportedly has shed 40 pounds and looked elegant in a recent edition of Vogue.

Among those who’ve noticed her transformation is Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who Wednesday complimented the junior senator’s “stunning” looks at a recent black-tie dinner. “She’s a pleasure to sit next to and she certainly looked good,” he said, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Last month, Majority Senate Leader Harry Reid called Gillibrand the Senate’s “hottest member,” and The Hill newspaper put the Democrat on its 2010 “most beautiful” list.

Gillibrand’s reps could not be reached for comment.
