Gloria Steinem endorses Christine Quinn
A feminist icon announced Wednesday that she supports Christine Quinn for mayor.
Ms. Magazine co-founder Gloria Steinem said the City Council speaker's years of helping the working class would make her an excellent leader for the city.
"The Statue of Liberty need no longer be the only woman who symbolizes democracy in our great city," Steinem, 79, said in a statement.
Quinn thanked Steinem for her backing and her years of advocacy for women's rights.
"Without the leadership and activism of Gloria Steinem, I would likely not have ever become the speaker of the New York City Council," she said in response to the statement.
