Andrew Cuomo credits his home state with his place on People magazine's recently released Sexiest Man Alive list.

"I think it's about New York. I think New York is sexy. And since I'm the New York governor, that's how they got there," Cuomo said during an unrelated phone call with media on Monday, according to reports.

The 55-year-old governor was included on the magazine's "Sexy at Every Age" page, which showcased swoonworthy gents ranging from from the age of 20 (John F. Kennedy's grandson Jack Schlossberg) to the age of 59 (actor Dennis Quaid), with Cuomo being named the hottest 55-year-old.

"That was the qualifier. I had a limited scope of competition," Cuomo said.

Cuomo also made People's annual list in 2010.

This year, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine topped the list as People's overall Sexiest Man Alive.
