Tasked with fixing a budget crisis and applying fiscal reform, Gov.-elect Andrew Cuomo unveiled a transition team on Thursday that includes a diverse mix of experienced politicians, business executives and labor leaders.
Heading the team is Lt. Gov.-elect Robert Duffy and co-chairs Rep. Nydia Velazquez (D-Brooklyn), Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney, a Republican, former New York State Comptroller Carl McCall, a Democrat, and Felix Rohatyn, a veteran investment banker.
Cuomo also released a list of more than 50 people who will serve on his Council of Economic and Fiscal Advisors and Committee on Economic Development and Labor.
They include American Express CEO Kenneth Chenault, New York State AFL-CIO President Denis Hughes, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver.
“It’s not your grandmother’s transition team,” said political analyst Jerry Kremer. “It’s carefully crafted … and somewhat bullet proof because these are choices that can’t be easily criticized.”
