Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong 'seeking treatment for substance abuse'
Billie Joe Armstrong is getting the help he needs.
Just days after going on an obscenity-filled rant on stage at the iHeartRadio music festival, the Green Day frontman confirmed that he is being treated for substance abuse.
"Billie Joe is seeking treatment for substance abuse," read a statement on the band's official website Sunday. "We would like everyone to know that our set was not cut short by Clear Channel, and to apologize to those we offended at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas."
During his on-stage fit, Armstrong smashed his guitar several times against the stage, screamed profanities and specifically raged against Justin Bieber.
Armstrong, 40, reportedly went off after thinking his band's time on stage was being cut short.
As a result of Armstrong's treatment, the group "regretfully" must postpone some upcoming promotional appearances, the statement continued.
Green Day is slated to play Brooklyn's soon-to-be-opened Barclays Center on Jan. 16.
In September, Armstrong was hospitalized for an unknown reason.
