A violent Memorial Day weekend around the city left at least seven people dead, including a mother of four whose 2-year-old son was clutching her hand when she was shot.
No arrests had been made as of Monday night in any of the six separate shootings.
Police Monday refused to say whether this has been a bloodier holiday weekend than in years past, though they point out that so far this year there have been fewer murders than last year.
Monday, Claudia Millan’s son reportedly was still trying to make sense of what happened as he and his mom walked home Sunday night from a nearby East Tremont store.
“He keeps saying ‘Mommy, mommy!’ and pointing to his face where she got shot,” Millan’s sister-in-law, Clarissa Lassiter, told the Daily News.
Besides Millan, other shooting victims included: a handyman gunned down while riding a bike near his Crown Heights home; a master’s degree graduate shot near his Bushwick home; home health care aide Crystal Sweet, 22, and her boyfriend, who were sprayed with bullets outside a Sheepshead Bay housing project; and two teens, a 15-year-old in the Bronx and a 19-year-old in Bushwick.
