Hackers take over Burger King's Twitter account
Burger King had a whopper of a PR mishap Monday as the chain's Twitter account was taken over by hackers.
The culprits behind the attack sent tweets from @BurgerKing -- which is verified by Twitter saying McDonald's had bought the fast food joint, and plastered McDonald's logos and food images over BK's page.
"We just got sold to McDonalds! Look for McDonalds in a hood near you," the hackers tweeted.
The attack lasted about an hour before Twitter shut down the account, but not before the culprits sent out dozens more tweets.
Burger King apologized for the hack, saying it was sorry "to our fans and followers who have been receiving erroneous tweets about other members of our industry and additional inappropriate topics."
It's unclear who hacked the account, but both McDonald's and Wendy's both tweeted their innocence.
"We empathize with our @BurgerKing counterparts. Rest assured, we had nothing to do with the hacking," McDonald's said.
Added Wendy's, tongue in cheek: "We have an alibi."
