Haiti fundraiser set for April in Central Park

Haiti has faded from the headlines since a deadly January earthquake devastated the country, but some local organizations are vowing to keep attention and aid streaming in.

International humanitarian agency, Concern Worldwide, as an example, is hosting a Concern for Haiti Run on April 10 in Central Park. The fundraiser coincides with another force of nature that could make matters worse for the nation.

“With the rainy season about to bring more misery on earthquake survivors who have little shelter, donations are crucial,” said Siobhan Walsh, Concern’s Executive Director.

Meanwhile, it was announced Wednesday that former President Bill Clinton would co-chair a committee overseeing at least $3.8 billion in post-earthquake aid to Haiti. Also Wednesday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon appealed to the international community to donate $3.8 billion for Haiti.
