Harlem man charged in Nassau check scam
A Harlem man faces grand larceny charges in the use of nearly $4,000 in stolen checks at four Nassau County banks, police said.
James Markellos, 42, of 28-47 Frederick Douglass Blvd., was arrested Wednesday, Nassau County police said.
Property crimes detectives said Markellos presented fraudulent checks and identification to tellers at four Astoria Federal banks and was able to withdraw $3,780. The checks were reported stolen from a New York City business, police said.
Markellos is charged with grand larceny, four counts of possession of a forged instrument and two counts of criminal possession of stolen property. He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday aft First District Court in Hempstead.
