The presidential inauguration provides a valuable time to look back on our nation's history. As President Barack Obama is sworn for a second term Monday, here are some fun facts about the presidents who preceded him and past inauguration days.
1. President Harry Truman's inauguration was the first ceremony to be televised in 1949.
2. The 20th amendment to the Constitution changed the official inauguration date to Jan. 20. The first president to be sworn in on this date was Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1937.
3. President Bill Clinton's inaugural ceremony in 1997 was the first to be broadcast on the Internet.
4. When President Obama was sworn in on Jan. 20, 2009, he not only was the first black president, he also was the first Hawaiian-born citizen to become president.
5. President Obama's first inaugural ceremony drew the largest crowd in history for the event.
6. William Henry Harrison was the first president to die in office, just one month after being sworn in. He died on April 4, 1881, after catching a cold, supposively from the bad weather on inauguration day, and developing pneumonia.
