"Hurricane Sandy" was New York City's most Googled term of 2012, the search giant revealed in its 12th annual Year-End Zeitgeist report, which tracks the most popular search terms for the year.

Sandy was followed by "MTA," with "NY Knicks," "NY Giants" and "StreetEasy NYC" rounding out the top five in the city.

Nationwide, "Whitney Houston" was the year's most-searched term, and "Hurricane Sandy" was the most-searched event.

Other nationwide results included "How to love" as the most-searched "How to ..." term, "What is SOPA?" topped the "What is ... ?" list, and "One Direction" was the top search for images.
