In Monday's edition of amNewYork, we highlighted the absolute best-dressed at Sunday's Golden Globes (Charlize! Rooney! Emma!). Now we're tackling the red carpet's most visible recurring trends.
Nude tones
Scores of stars showed up in fleshy shades, including Julie Bowen, Piper Perabo, Heidi Klum, Katharine McPhee and Mary J. Blige - and that's just a few. While most were spot-on, we gravitated most toward Kristen Wiig's modern, minimalist look and Charlize Theron's full-on glamour in Dior Couture.
Two tones
Dual-colored gowns made a strong showing on the carpet, with celebs such as Kate Winslet and a delightfully deco Claire Danes in black and white, Zooey Deschanel in black-and-green Prada (which would have been sort of cool, if it wasn't for her WTF hair) and Angelina Jolie in a cream-and- crimson Atelier Versace stunner.
Deep Vs
Plunging V- necklines were a sure thing at the Globes, as evidenced by stars such as Emma Stone, Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron and winner Laura Dern, who looked better than ever in a glittering emerald number.
Fishtail
Truth be told, we typically cringe at mermaid-style fishtail gowns. To us, they often look redundant, unflattering and vaguely bridal. However, out of the scores of stars showcasing the look, Reese Witherspoon changed our mind a bit in red Zac Posen, while Sofia Vergara looked flawless, if predictable, in a blue mermaid Vera Wang.
