Alfred Hitchcock's psychological drama "Vertigo" ousted longtime favorite "Citizen Kane" as the British Film Institute's top-rated flick of all time.
BFI released its newest list of "Top 50 Greatest Films of All Time" Wednesday, after polling 846 movie experts, including famed directors Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola and Quentin Tarantino. The list is published once a decade in the institute's magazine, Sight & Sound.
The Orson Welles-directed "Citizen Kane," which has topped the list for 50 years, was bumped by the 1958 movie "Vertigo," starring James Stewart as a vertigo-inflicted policeman shadowing beauty Kim Novak. "Vertigo" was ranked second a decade ago.
Welles' drama about the life of a publishing tycoon was 34 votes shy of staying on top.
