NEW YORK (AP) — Who’s the fastest texter in the world?
Competitors from more than a dozen countries were ready to show off their athletic thumb prowess to win that title in a competition Thursday in New York City.
The LG Mobile World Cup challenges texters on both speed and accuracy. The winning team takes home a $100,000 prize.
Participants include a 16-year-old from Des Moines, Iowa, who is the 2009 U.S. National Texting Champion. Kate Moore averages 12,000 texts per month. She says she can “talk and text at the same time, without looking at the phone.”
The U.S. team is pitted against competitors from countries including South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Russia and Korea.
The sponsor, LG Electronics, has hired dozens of interpreters.
