How to get around town during holiday
For holiday travelers staying in the New York City area this week, MTA buses and subways are running on a Sunday schedule as crews prepare the transit system for the winter storm.
With high winds and heavy rain expected Wednesday, the MTA will bring in extra workers, clear drains, securing equipment at yards and bus depots and ensure railroads are clear of trees and downed wires.
Meanwhile, on Thursday the MTA is adding service to the Times Square shuttle and the No. 1 line in the morning for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on the Upper West Side, though a host of buses in the area will be rerouted.
On the rails, the MTA is offering off-peak fares and adding train service. Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North will get extra trains for Thanksgiving-eve travelers, the parade, Black Friday and over the weekend for those returning to the city.
The Staten Island Ferry, meanwhile, will operate on Thanksgiving every 30 minutes between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., and then hourly during the night.
