For New Yorkers planning to watch the Macy's Fourth of July fireworks show in person this year, your best bet to get around town will be the subway.

While subways will run on a Saturday schedule Wednesday, the MTA will increase service on the No. 1, A/C/E, L and 42nd Street shuttle as soon as the fireworks show ends at 9:50 p.m. to help straphangers leave the West Side quicker.

Bus service will also run on a Saturday schedule, which means that several routes that normally don't run on the weekends won't be making stops. The Staten Island Ferry will suspend service in both directions from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Gene Russianoff of the Straphangers Campaign says anyone hoping to see the fireworks should take the subway -- and leave extra time to travel.

Those trying to get out of town for the holiday will have the option to take extra Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North trains Wednesday.
