Hugh Jackman: I had skin cancer

Hugh Jackman made a surprising confession on Instagram Thursday, sending out a photo of himself with a bandage on his nose after being treated for skin cancer.

The 45-year-old Australian actor said his wife of 17 years, Deborra-Lee Furness, was worried about a spot on his nose and told the "Wolverine" star to get it checked out by a doctor.

"Boy, was she right!" Jackman wrote along with the photo.

"I had a basil cell carcinoma. Please don't be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!"

Basal cell carcinoma is the most common form of cancer, and it accounts for eight of 10 skin cancer cases, according to the American Cancer Society.

It is most common on sun-exposed areas such as the head and neck, and it generally does not spread if treated in time.
