Some 250 mourners gathered at a Smithtown church Wednesday for the funeral of an NYPD cop who died while kayaking with his son on the Nissequogue River last week.
Patrick Luca, 41, of Smithtown, was found dead after taking out his son Caden, 5, in an inflatable kayak on Friday. Passing boaters rescued Caden, who was floating in a lifejacket, and officials later found the empty kayak. A boater found Luca's body in Smithtown Bay on Saturday. It has yet to been determined what caused Luca to go overboard.
