It’s clearly against the rules, but “American Idol” fans are bombarding the show with letters and emails demanding it to reinstate Pia Toscano — and give Stefano Langone the boot.
According TMZ.com, fans have been begging Fox to bend the rules and bring the 22-year-old Queens native back. The viewpoint of said fans: Langone has zero chance of winning and therefore should be axed so Pia can return.
According to 'Idol' honcho Nigel Lythgoe, though, Toscano wasn't exactly on the fast-track to victory, either.
“I know the [voting] results, so I know she was never a frontrunner. The fact of the matter is, it appears that Pia didn’t connect with the audience the way we maybe think she did," Lythgoe told Yahoo's Reality Rocks.
TMZ also reported that fans have gone so far as to reach out to Langone himself, pleading with him to remove himself from the competition.
First of all, that goes against the democratic nature of the show (and proves some its fans might need to get a hobby). Second of all, winning the show, in most cases, is a one-way ticket to nowheresville anyway.
Pia’s fans should reference Jennifer Hudson and Chris Daughtry, who got booted early on and have had stronger careers than “winners” Ruben Studdard, Taylor Hicks, David Cook, Kris Allen and Lee DeWyze.
