Indie heroes Animal Collective design limited-edition kicks

This past spring, though, Animal Collective finally branched out from focusing solely on its brand of indie rock to the world of sneakers, designing four pairs of limited-edition kicks for a Los Angeles-based company.
This got us to thinking: What other marketing opportunities could the Maryland-bred band take advantage of? Imagine these product possibilities:
Animal Collective action figures: These bad boys come in a set of four. Or three. Or maybe two — depends on the album. They each come with a concert animal mask.
Animal Collective make-your-own puzzles: Practice putting together the pastiche of sounds that it takes to make an AC album with this jigsaw, featuring 500 pieces and one million different combinations, (though only one looks “right”).
Animal Collective Beard-B-Gone: It worked great, but the marketing department went to a show and was worried about a severe lack of potential consumers.
Animal Collective no-wash flannel: If your flannel is clean, you’re a newbie poseur. If it’s too dirty, no one will want to be around you. This no-wash flannel stays just clean enough not to offend, while still being dirty enough to look “worn.”
If you go:
Animal Collective play Prospect Park Bandshell tonight. Doors, 5:30 p.m., $35, sold out. bricartsmedia.org
