Info sought in case of two abandoned and abused West Highland Terriers

Two emaciated, dehydrated, maggot-covered Westie mixes are recovering and receiving ongoing veterinary care in a foster home after being found in a duffel bag next to trash cans in the Bronx on Sept. 16.
NYC Animal Care & Control is working with the Bronx DA's Office to find out who is responsible for discarding the two-year-old pups, who have been christened "Fred & Ginger," said Julie Bank, outgoing executive director of the AC&C. Anyone with information about who discarded the dogs, which were found on Commonwealth Ave. between Bronx River Ave. and Mansion St., is asked to email the organization at info@nycacc.org.
The dogs had pressure sores and were covered in filth, but are expected to fully recover. They will no doubt find permanent homes, said a spokesman for the AC&C. "The smaller dogs are always very popular," he said. "People don't have to do this: If they drop them off at the shelter, they'll probably get adopted."
